Artist Statement

I believe art made through the observation of loved ones is one of the most tender acts of adoration. I aim to capture displays of comfort and domesticity, and translate the joys and surrealness of my love through translations of ancient fables and mythical beasts. I work across painting, printmaking and ceramics to take on the slow task of building up layers that can serve as a kind of honoring worship. Recently, half-woman and half-animal creatures, like the sphinx and the harpy, have played a large role in my expression of identity as a femme. I create invented worlds that are invitingly whimsical and independent in their showcasing, but also are visually and thematically connected to each other. I utilize a mixture of detailed rendering and gentle line for an illustrative aspect of clarity, and wield earth tones with carefully balanced hints of bright, saturated pastels. I enjoy the tranquility of repetitive pattern and the playfulness of brushstrokes and hatching. Storytelling is super important, and I want narratives to be read even in the smallest details.
